Tilley Acquires Ingredients Solutions Inc. to Lead Distribution of Hydrocolloids

Tilley Distribution has acquired Ingredients Solutions Inc., a Maine-based distributor and blender of hydrocolloids, in a deal that significantly enhances the company’s portfolio of value-add specialties and ingredients.

The deal, which closed Wednesday, Sept 1, makes Baltimore-based Tilley the largest North American independent distributor of hydrocolloids — molecules that are used as functional ingredients in food and beverage formulation.

The acquisition is the first in company history for Tilley and comes on the heels of a partnership created in January with SK Capital Partners, a private equity firm that specializes in the chemical industry. Tilley employs more than 100 people across its two facilities in Maryland. It will retain Ingredients Solutions’ research and development laboratory in Waldo, Maine, as well as its employees as part of the deal.
